SEMINOLE HEIGHTS - Albert Manolt Sr. moved his family from Alpine, N. J., to Tampa in the 1930s. He opened Alpine Liquor Store in 1936, three years after the end of Prohibition. For a brief time he also ran a bar at the store, located in a wooden building at 7501 N. Nebraska Ave. A large neon sign hanging from a tall pine tree lit up his name, “AL”. Manolt served drinks and hamburgers for customers who also could play slot machines while waiting for their orders. The 1940 photograph shows the original store. Cook Mac Williams, left, and bartender Jimmy Crowell took orders, curbside, from customers.
